Great story. Acceptance is really hard to come by for parents with a crystal clear vision of “success” (their own). Not until parents come to respect their children’s choices can there be any healing on both sides… The worst is that no matter how successful we become in the future, the problem will likely persist. I have a grandfather like that. As my life path doesn’t fit his notions of what I should be doing, he shuts his ears to any news of success on my part. If it doesn’t fit his lifestyle, it’s not for real.
